Elsie Marie Compo, 61, of Lansing passed away on Monday, April 25, 2011 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.
Funeral services for Elsie will be held at Chippewa Indian United Methodist Church on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Owen White-Pigeon officiating. Interment will follow in the Denver Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 27 from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at Clark Family Funeral Chapel.
A memorial service for Dorothy will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Clark Family Funeral Chapel with Rev. Robert Pego officiating. Interment will follow Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 25, 2011 from 5-7 p.m. and Tuesday, April 26, 2011 from 1 p.m. until time of service.
Elsie was born on June 2, 1949 in Isabella County, the daughter of Simon and Cecelia (Elk) Jackson. She married Joseph Compo. Elsie earned her nursing degree and worked as a homemaker. She was a member of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and the Chippewa Indian United Methodist Church. Elsie loved spending time with her family, riding around, and going to the casino.
Elsie is survived by her children, Kimberly (Lou Rodriguez) Compo of Lansing, Howard (Jenny Hall) Compo of Mt. Pleasant, April (Alvin Calhoun) Compo of Lansing, and Harold (Cheryl Anderson) Compo of Gladston; grandchildren, Tom Epps, Matthew Epps, Veronica Epps, Christopher Epps, Samantha Compo, Justine Compo, Alvin Compo, Jr., Zheesheeb Compo, and Chloe Cecile Compo; brothers, Dejay Elk of Grand Rapids, Delmar (Julia) Jackson, Sr. of Mt. Pleasant, Alvin (Lucy Meoak) Jackson of Onekama, and David (Gerada Floyd) Jackson; sisters, Patricia Keshick of Mt. Pleasant, and Catherine Jackson of Mt. Pleasant.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph; sons, Joseph Compo, Jr. and Jamie Compo; and sister, Lucille Hawkins.
